There seems to be a good reason for celebration with BMW’s release of the new 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe. BMW releases the initial specs and details about the upcoming 2022 2 Series, and it sounds promising. Check out this new video from BMW BLOG featuring the new 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe.
During its pre-production phase, several journos got the chance for some pre-drives of the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe. And one of them was BMW’s sister site BimmerToday.
The chassis of the BMW 2022 2 Series features an increase in negative front camber. It also has a longer wheelbase (52mm), wider wheel track (52mm/31mm in front and rear), and stiffer rear subframe bushings. Moreover, it had a 12-percent increase in torsional rigidity. It still maintains a front and rear weight balance close to 50/50, although there are no exact numbers from BMW.
BMW also improves its aerodynamics along with its 50-percent reduction in its front-end facelift. Thanks to the optimization of the turning vanes, fuel tank cover, front splitter, and air curtains for the new lift. These changes will create a better front-end grip, sharper responses, and even a better turn-in.
Moreover, this new BMW 2 Series Coupe packs tuned stroke-dependent dampers as standard, similar to the G20 3 Series. BMW will also be offering electronically-controlled adaptive dampers as an option on all models, along with the M Sport suspension. The 2022 2 Series also has the Variable Sports Steering for more precision when steering into bends. This feature also helps in reducing steering effort when maneuvering and parking.
BMW only mentions two variants as of now. Yet, many expect more models as it gets closer to its debut. For now, the automaker only tells the BMW 230i and the BMW M240i. Its 230i will get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 245 horsepower. Moreover, the M240i has 374 horsepower powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine. BMW did not mention the transmission on both models. However, many suspect that a manual version will be available on the 230i model but not on the M240i. The M240i might only come with xDrive, according to some sources. BMW claims a 5.9-second launch from 0-100 km/h on the 230i. Yet, the M240i will be making 4.5 seconds. As we all know, the Bavarians like to underrate their numbers, which is why these may be faster in the real world.
