The engine of the G80 BMW M3 Competition is the brand’s latest S58 e. It is based on the standard, single-turbocharged BMW B58 and is a twin-turbocharged 3.0 straight-six engine. The B58 is famously in almost every BMW with the “40i” designation. Obviously, the S58 version from the M Division is much superior. That’s because the B58 is one of the best engines BMW has ever built. However, the sound is not that great, but that is the only shortcoming of this engine. The inferior sound is due to the exhaust particulate filters and emission regulations. From what we expect from a BMW M inline-six, this sound just lacks some of the intensity we want.
Fortunately, that’s where Akrapovic comes in. The Slovenian exhaust company has been making some of the best exhaust systems in the world for years. We can immediately tell that the S58 engine with Akrapovic exhaust is louder, more metallic, and angrier than before. It also has a burble tune, a type of automotive flatulence that has become very popular among car enthusiasts, which makes it a bit more dramatic. Overall, a vehicle would definitely sound better compared to the standard car sounds when integrated with an Akrapovic system.
