[Video] Clubman gets revamped into a MINI pick-up

Recently, it seems like MINI is trying to do some shift in their image. Their aggressive investment in a more active lifestyle image is so noticeable, convincing you that the winged emblem doesn’t only fit on little cars. And honestly, it’s pretty fascinating to see. All of MINI’s vehicles do not have to be small just because the firm is called MINI. The British brand’s present lineup and sales numbers prove that. These days, many appear to favour the larger Clubman and Countryman models. But what about a pick-up?

A pick-up, on the other hand, would also be viable. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to happen, even though pick-ups are already quite popular in some regions of the world. Because if you think about it, the majority of them aren’t really high-end in any way. The Mercedes-Benz X-Class, for example, was an attempt in this direction, but it fell short of expectations. So, let’s not get our hopes up for MINI to produce a pick-up anytime soon. However, recently, a MINI fan just proved that the concept is not far from reality.

In the video above, we get to see this guy build an off-roader out of a MINI. His base model was a second-hand all-wheel-drive Clubman, which he bought solely for this project. He did all the work, from chopping it up towards the rear to the welding and finishing touches. As for the design, he cut the cabin in half and decided to retain the barn-style door upfront minus the windows. To make things even more interesting, he borrowed a Volkswagen rear window to seal off the sliced cabin.

With a pair of raise kits and some good mud tyres, the ultimate effect isn’t as awful as you may expect. The overall result of the MINI pick-up is actually great. Now, a little off-roading would be interesting to see how the MINI ALL4 all-wheel-drive system performs.
