BMW grabs sixth manufacturer title in BTCC

BMW wins the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for the sixth time in a row on Sunday, making racing history. There has never been anything like this in the BTCC and beats the previous record of five consecutive wins set in 2005, making the BMW 3 Series one of the most iconic cars in the history of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

Each of the two different race models, both developed and run by 15-time BTCC title holders West Surrey Racing (WSR), make up the BMW’s Manufacturers’ Championship. The BMW 125i M Sport wins three championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018, while the BMW 330i M Sport has a perfect record since its first BTCC weekend in 2019. The BMW remains the leading car manufacturer with 16 wins in 30 races and took the series lead at the second round at Snetterton in April.

The Team BMW led more laps (179) than any other manufacturer this year. All three drivers contributed to this result, but it was only Colin Turkington who finished the most laps at the front with 107. At Brands Hatch, Turkington grabs the Goodyear Wingfoot Award for finishing the year as the series’ best qualifier for the second year in a row. Turkington, Oliphant and Jelley took a total of five wins, 14 podium finishes, two pole positions and four fastest race laps this season.

Price said they finally clinched a record-breaking sixth consecutive BTCC Manufacturer’s title. “Achieving this feat for six years in a row is a testament to the capability of the 330i M Sport as well as WSR’s passion, dedication, and persistence,” he added.
