BMW Concept XM teases fierce face ahead of Nov 29 Reveal

Earlier this month, BMW revealed the “all-new high-powered, hybrid-electric” flagship M car. Now, it officially has a name. Others have said it would be dubbed X8, but insiders close to the topic revealed months ago it will be known as XM months ago. True enough, a Citroen-esque moniker has been confirmed by the Bavarian brand yesterday for its top M model.

There is more to this vehicle than its name, though. After months of anticipation, we now get our first glimpse at the sporty luxobarge ahead of its November 29 debut. As you can see in the image, it shows off its mean face, headlined by the enormous kidney grille with its illuminated contour. It makes a strong visual impact without a doubt. While the elegant LED headlamps in the shape of triangles complete the whole look. There are also more light-emitting LEDs on the roof, but we won’t assume it’s in the final production.

Look a little closer to its grille, and you’ll see the M badge. Additionally, the indentations in the hood appear to be somewhat like a vent, but we’ll have to see if they’re functional. The huge side mirrors imply that Concept XM will be close to the production model due in 2023. This was the case with Concept Z4 and Concept i4.

From the shadowy teaser image, we can tell that the high-performance SUV developed in Spartanburg would be angular in style. Clearly, it’s is far from the current X models styling. The aggressively designed front bumper presumably includes hefty air intakes to cool down a V8.

The combustion engine will be joined by a plug-in hybrid powertrain rated at over 700 horsepower. A speculated 650 horsepower six-cylinder model is also rumoured to be under development. In addition to a 23-inch set of wheels, a limited-slip differential is on the list.

BMW and its M division will go all out to prove that electrification isn’t only about meeting ever-stricter emissions standards. Rather, it could also mean serious performance. Stay tuned for more updates.
