The idea of a BMW 5 Series being on stage in a drama set in 1847 may seem absurd. However, we have seen modern adaptations of Macbeth both on stage and in film. With this, the opening of the season at Teatro alla Scala in Milan shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
Riccardo Chailly and Davide Livermoren performed the Giuseppe Verdi’s opera, with a set designed by Gio Forma. In the first act, the protagonist drove through the Scottish woods with Banco in a black BMW 5 series. It was a gloomy atmosphere marked by thunderstorms.
Moreover, the car was used to recreate a journey through the woods, similar to Christopher Nolan’s “Inception”. On 7 December, Teatro all Scala celebrated the 70th anniversary of the performance of Macbeth. This is the final part of Riccardo Chailly’s trilogy, which began in 2015 with Joan of Arc and ended in 2018 with Attila.
The stage was graced with the talents of some of the greatest singers of our time. Anna Netrebko, the world’s most acclaimed and sought-after singer, made her sixth appearance as the show’s leading lady. There was plenty of talent on display in this production of Macduff. Luca Salsi plays the role of the Bard and Francesco Meli in the role of Macduff. A number of notable actors, such as Ildar Abdrazakov, were cast for the role of Banco.
