Speed Test: BMW iX vs Audi e-tron Sportback

The BMW iX has only a few competitors since there are not many other premium EV SUVs in the same price range and size. However, due to its popularity, customers are more likely to compare the iX to the Audi E-tron than the Tesla Model X. Auto Express has put together a new comparison test to find out which vehicle is the best.

Due to its smaller size, the Audi e-tron Sportback has an advantage over the other vehicles in this comparison. The iX, however, is built on a bespoke EV chassis, while the e-tron is on a conventional chassis. Even though it has been modified for electric operation, the e-tron uses Audi’s MLB Evo architecture, which also underpins the A4 and Bentayga SUVs. The chassis of the BMW iX is made of aluminium and carbon fibre and was developed specifically for electric vehicles.

Apart from performance, there is nothing to recommend the Audi e-tron Sportback in this test. The Audi e-tron Sportback 55 Quattro produces 402 hp from its two electric motors. This helps the vehicle reach 60 miles per hour in just 5.7 seconds. It’s impossible to say how quickly the iX gets from zero to 60mph, but it has 322bhp and does it in 6.1 seconds. The e-tron costs a little more, but not much more.

To compensate for the lack of power, the BMW iX is much more pleasant to drive in almost every way. It feels lighter and more agile and has a more luxurious interior. It is also more comfortable and enjoyable to drive. Again, the iX’s newer underpinnings make a big difference, but BMW has done a great job tuning the car overall. Both are likely to be the most popular non-Tesla models for most customers in the premium segment EV SUV. Visit Auto Express’ comparison to find out which is the best option for your needs.
