BMW has collaborated with artist Jeff Koons on an 8 Series Gran Coupe. The BMW 8 X JEFF KOONS will make its digital debut at Frieze in Los Angeles. It will be on display at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City from April 1-4. Furthermore, the pre-order of this new model started in 16 February 2022 for the US customers.
Jeff Koons said this 8 Series is a dream come true. He admires its uniqueness, which is why he has long wanted to design a special edition BMW. Jeff is happy to express his creativity and collaborate with the Bavarian brand.
The BMW 8 X JEFF KOONS is one of the most entertaining collaborations of BMW. Thanks to the use of brilliant, vibrant colours and emotions of speed and power in a cartoon motif. The Pop! cartoon explosions and the “vapour thrust” create the feeling of a comic book. The blue and yellow colours on the underside are reminiscent of the E92 M3 GT2 Art Car that took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
There will be 99 examples, each of which will take hundreds of hours to complete in an eleven-stage painting process. BMW will build two cars per week by specialist teams at the BMW plants in Dingolfing and Landshut. Each comes with a large-format certificate of authenticity and a unique VIN. They are also signed by Koons and BMW CEO Oliver Zipse. Inside, it features a Superman-like colour scheme, with lots of blue and red, including the red headliner and floor mats. It also gets piano black trim, with Koons’ signature on the cupholder cover. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management, BMW AG shared how Jeff inspired the entire BMW team. He also mentioned that the company has never before in history undertaken such an extensive design effort.
