Can the BMW i7 have 600 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle?

BMW will unveil its first-ever i7 electric limousine. As soon as the first pictures and specifications are released, more information will be available. Power consumption data was secretly released earlier this week. If the battery packs are used, the electric range can be reduced from 22.5 to 19.5 kWh per 100 km.

The iX 50 has a total range of more than 600 km according to WLTP (372 miles) and 324 miles according to EPA. It owes its capacity range to the battery pack of 111.5 kWh (105.2 kWh net usable) (with 20-inch wheels). The xDrive50 version of the electric SUV has a slightly higher combined power consumption of 23.0-19.8 kWh / 100 kilometres. The range is around 400 miles (644 kilometres), according to the British publication AutoExpress.

However, with the same weigh with the iX, it may not reach the WLTP range of 640 kilometres. It is expected to be closer to 600-610 km. Due to the stricter standards, the electric range will decrease. There will also be a difference between the different i7 variants. The lower electric range of the more powerful i7 models will be similar to that of the iX, and tyre choice will also be crucial.

If BMW wants to market the electric limousine as a flagship, the top model could be the i7 M70. Take these estimates with a grain of salt, as they are based on our own experience with the fifth-generation eDrive platform. However, it is likely that the overall specifications will fall within these parameters. The first G70 BMW 7 Series models will roll off the production line in July 2022, with deliveries beginning in autumn of the same year.
