Since it was introduced in 2020 and received LCI badging last year, the BMW iX3 has an odd lifecycle. It received a facelift earlier to bring its design more in line with that of the regular X3. However, it was then modified in 2021. As you may recall, the company originally wanted to introduce the X3 in the United States, but then changed its mind.
The BMW iX3 is only available with rear-wheel drive and an electric motor in the rear of the vehicle. This is in stark contrast to the iX, which is only equipped with a front engine and xDrive. What time frame are you talking about? The German brand claims acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds. The experts at CarExpert have analysed the acceleration behaviour of the iX and put this figure to the test.
Even though the iX3 was slightly faster than claimed by the manufacturer, it was still a typical BMW performance. With futuristic music blaring from the speakers, it traversed the course in 6.72 seconds. With a weight of 2,365 kg, it weighs 180 kg more than the iX xDrive40, but is only 0.6 seconds slower (5,214 lbs).
BMW plans to build a more advanced electric vehicle in the future, such as the iX3. The i3 sedan, based on the long-wheelbase 3 Series, will be built in China later this year and will have the same features. The design from CLAR underlies both cars, although more advanced versions based on the New Class are in the works. In 2025, we can expect an electric 3 Series and a similar crossover.
On the other hand, the iX3 faces a lot of competition, such as the Tesla Model Y, the Kia EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Genesis GV60 and the Audi Q4 E-Tron.
