BMW 216i Active Tourer Gets Three-Cylinder Engine

BMW is increasing the availability of the 2 Series Active Tourer across Europe as part of a broader set of steps for the upcoming fall. The new 216i has a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three that is standard on all FWD variants if the power of three cylinders isn’t enough for the family man who is never in a rush. Through the seven-speed automatic transmission, it sends 122 hp and 230 Nm of torque to the front wheels.

It’s not exactly the ultimate driving machine, as the hardware only allows for a sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 10.3 seconds. However, for individuals who don’t want to join the SUV frenzy but still need a quality minivan, this is a good choice. According to the WLTP rating, the BMW 216i Active Tourer uses as little as 6.2 litres of fuel every 100 kilometres on the combined cycle, which translates to CO2 emissions of just 140 grammes per kilometres driven.

Connectedly, beginning in November 2022, the 2 Series Active Tourer will come standard with tyre pressure monitoring and notification via the My BMW app. Additionally, beginning in December 2022, the Digital Key Plus will be compatible with Android devices in addition to iPhones. In addition to the 216i, BMW also released the 223d xDrive in May, which features a mild-hybrid diesel engine.
