Future BMW EVs are rumoured to produce between 270 and 1340 hp

The architecture for BMW’s next-gen vehicles is soon to arrive. This EV-focused platform’s development is currently in progress in Munich. And according to our sources, we will get our first look at the Neue Klasse in 2023. At CES in Las Vegas, BMW will debut a new automobile concept that teases a potential design language. A new concept car based on Neue Klasse will also soon launch at the Munich Auto Show later in the year.

BMW recently held an Innovation & Sustainability day in Germany. It’s where various electric concerns were discussed before the Neue Klasse start of communication. The new EV platform and its battery cell technology are among them. BMW’s chief technology officer, Frank Weber, met with the media to review the company’s plans for upcoming electric vehicles. The future round cells provided by EVE, CATL, and Nortvolt were the first items on the agenda. These round cells will have maximum power, increased range, and slower degradation,

The new 800V system comes with a rapid charger. According to Weber, it will extend the electric range by 30 miles for each minute of charging. The new automobile platform also supports single, two, and quad synchronous SSM motors. Also, the latter is the one that M Division is currently testing. As claimed by Car Magazine, the power output will purportedly start at roughly 270 horsepower and increase to a maximum of 1340 hp. It’s unclear if Weber’s interview is where these numbers come from.

The Neue Klasse architecture can support power outputs as high as 1 megawatt (1341 hp), as stated in an interview with the BMW CTO. However, he stopped short of confirming that number for a production series BMW. Nevertheless, we anticipate that vehicles like the upcoming M3 and M4 will have a power output that starts in the 600+ hp range. Also, expecting that larger M vehicles will get access to more power.

Will a BMW M vehicle with more than 1,000 horsepower ever be seen? Although it’s conceivable, BMW now chooses high efficiency over high production. Rumours suggest that battery packs will eventually have a capacity of up to 150 kWh and possibly even more. We expect discovering more about the new car architecture and its capabilities as the launch date for Neue Klasse in 2025 draws closer.
