[VIDEO] 740HP G80 BMW M3 vs Supercars: A Drag Race Showdown

Modern BMW performance vehicles have much to be criticized, notably their styling and relative lack of steering feel. Nobody, however, can disparage the massive engines of the BMW M. The 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six BMW S58 engine, which comes standard with 473 horsepower, can be adjusted to produce obscene amounts of power. The G80 M3, powered by this particular S58 engine, can compete with real supercars thanks to its massive 740 horsepower.

In this brand-new Automotive Mike video, you can watch the tuned M3 drag race against some impressive, captivating opposition. Whether the M3 had all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive is unknown, but it didn’t matter because every race had a rolling start. A rear-drive M3, especially one with 740 horsepower, would shred its tires from a standing start. But that doesn’t matter in a rolling race that starts at a speed of roughly 40 km/h.

The McLaren, which had roughly the same power but was considerably lower in weight, eventually drew away and won. However, the M3’s engine is surprisingly powerful. In this video, the M3 accelerates quickly and keeps up with other well-tuned supercars, such as McLaren 650S. The two-door, two-seat, carbon-tubbed supercar with its own twin-turbo V8 can accelerate toward the quarter-mile almost as swiftly as the almost 4,000-pound, four-door sedan. That’s a significant accomplishment, and BMW should be proud of it.

It also displays the new BMW M3’s tonal shift. The M3 was never the group’s fastest vehicle. It was never the car itself that defied expectations. Instead, it was a car that was entertaining to drive and had a lot of finesse. However, the M3 is currently a monster on the drag strip at red lights. Anyone driving this M3 knows it handles better than most sports sedans and feels more like a supercar overall. Even though it isn’t the sports car for purists that it once was, the new Nissan GT-R is immensely enjoyable because it is so brutally, viciously effective. This video serves as proof of it.
