[VIDEO] Watch the BMW M4 CSL Reach 300 KM/H on Autobahn

While not built for top speed, the M4 CSL Competition Sport Lightweight ranks among BMW’s fastest production cars. A new video features a Sapphire Black edition of the high-performance coupe effortlessly approaching its limit. The electronic top speed restriction is set to engage at an impressive 191 mph (307 km/h).

On an open stretch of German highway, the M4 CSL underwent aggressive acceleration tests, hitting 186 mph (300 km/h). The two-seater took 6.6 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) and 3.81 seconds to hit 124 mph (200 km/h) from there. Though built for swift cornering on racetracks, the Nürburgring’s fastest production, BMW, is a rocket on the Autobahn.

While the M division claims a 100 kg (220 lbs) weight reduction compared to the rear-wheel-drive M4 Competition, the CSL remains hefty for a performance car. BMW dubs the M4 CSL “the re-edition of a legend,” succeeding the M3 E46 CSL. Its 1,625 kg weight isn’t too extreme, considering the XM plug-in hybrid SUV weighs in at a heftier 2,710 kg.

Production of the limited 1,000 M4 CSLs began at the Dingolfing Plant in July 2022. The high-performance edition features an enhanced S58, with its twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six delivering 40 more horsepower than the M4 Competition Coupe and significant weight savings. It generates 550 horsepower and maintains 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.

Time will reveal if the M4 CSL becomes as coveted in a decade or two as its predecessor is today. Notably, it’s rarer, with only 1,383 E46 models produced.
