Typically, BMW launches a car configurator with each new model. Unfortunately, it’s different for the X1 M35i. On BMW’s German site, users can now play with a visualizer for this first-ever M Performance version of the Bavaria. It offers a host of customization options, including body colours, wheel designs, interior finishes, and upholstery choices.
The BMW X1 M35i offers nine paint options: Alpine White, Sapphire Black, Cape York Green, Space Silver, and M Portimao Blue. Three unique Individual shades – Blue Bay Lagoon, Storm Bay, and Frozen Pure Grey – are also on the palette. Interestingly, the Mora Individual and Tampa Bay Green, seen in recent official photos, aren’t listed yet.
For the BMW X1 M35i, you can pick from three-wheel designs. There’s a standard two-tone 19-inch set (style 871 M) or two larger 20-inch options (Individual 869 I or 872 M). Choose from a range of authentic leather colours or an Alcantara and Veganza (vegan leather) blend for the interior. Dash trim comes in black, eucalyptus wood, or aluminium (Hexacube or mesh style).
Though boasting more customization, the European BMW X1 M35i faces a power shortfall. Its turbocharged 2.0-litre gasoline engine delivers 16 horsepower less than its US counterpart. However, both share a seven-speed automatic transmission that feeds 295 pound-feet (400 Newton meters) of torque to the xDrive system.
In the US, the X1, fitted with BMW’s strongest four-cylinder engine, comes with a $49,900 price tag, plus $995 for destination and handling. The extensive options list includes M Compound brakes, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display. By comparison, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 starts slightly lower, at $49,500.
