BMW X5 xDrive45e Unleashes Attitude with Widebody Kit

Several months post-BMW’s unveiling of the X5 facelift, Prior Design is revisiting the pre-LCI luxury SUV model. Contrary to the typical focus on the powerful M Performance and M models by aftermarket specialists, the spotlight now shines on a unique variant – the plug-in hybrid xDrive45e. Notably, BMW no longer manufactures this model, showing a preference for the more potent xDrive50e.

Prior Design reveals no engine upgrades, rendering this X5 PHEV visually captivating yet with standard performance. The SUV showcases a transformative wide-body kit in Cosmos Black Metallic. Chrome accents have been swapped for black vinyl, elevating its formidable appearance. Controversially, M emblems adorn the tailgate and charging station cap. All BMW roundals and badges are also now displayed in total darkness.

Thanks to added hood bulge, front spoiler lip, and fender flares, the X5 xDrive45e takes on a more assertive attitude. Prior Design has fitted the rear with a dynamic diffuser and two spoilers. This includes one atop the roof and the other beneath the glass. The silhouette sees a complete transformation with 23-inch forged wheels, substantial 315/25 ZR23 tires, and H&R spacers.

You’re not alone if you think it now resembles an enormous hatchback rather than an SUV. In a perplexing contrast to the very nature of an SUV, this shift occurs when the electric X5 has been drastically lowered using a suspension kit. To each their preferences, though.

With a combined 394 horsepower and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, the earlier X5 plug-in hybrid—rather than the more recent xDrive50e—can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds. On the other hand, the most recent X5 PHEV completes the race in just 4.8 seconds and has a total system output of 489 horsepower and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).
