BMW M2’s 2024 Power Surge: 473 HP Unleashed

The BMW M2 G87 has become a formidable presence in the sports car world, with over 10,000 units already hitting the streets. However, BMW is not resting on its laurels. BMW has ambitious plans to enhance the M2’s performance further, starting with an upgraded inline-six engine set to debut in 2024.

The M2’s current twin-turbo 3.0-litre engine delivers an impressive 453 hp, but BMW can push the limits of the S58 engine further. The 2025 model year M2 will receive a power boost of an additional 20 horsepower for a total of 473 hp, or 480 PS. While BMW has recently leaned towards starting with the Competition version for their M cars, the revised M2 will likely break that trend.

Looking beyond 2025, the M2 CS is set to make its entrance in August 2025. This car promises to be a beast, boasting over 500 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and abundant carbon fibre. Spy shots have revealed exciting design elements like a CSL-inspired ducktail spoiler, hinting at a captivating visual upgrade.

In 2026, BMW plans to further up the ante by introducing an xDrive system to the M2. This high-performance variant, expected to deliver at least 500 horsepower, will cater to those seeking an even quicker ride. However, the G87’s journey has an end in sight, as production is slated to conclude in the second half of 2029. Enthusiasts can only hope the beloved stick shift will survive until the last G87 rolls off the assembly line.
