At the 2023 Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, BMW showcases the second-generation X2. The lineup features two key models: the fully electric iX2 xDrive30 and the sporty X2 M35i. Despite future naming changes, the X2 M35i retains its moniker.
Dressed in matte Frozen Portimao Blue and riding on 21-inch wheels, the X2 stands out. The larger wheels are now standard on the X2 and X1 due to their increased size. The X2 M35i offers optional M Compound brakes with grey callipers and an M logo. It sports four-piston callipers at the front and single-piston callipers at the rear.
The “M” branding extends to the kidney grille and engine cover, distinguishing this model from its predecessor. The X2 M35i and X1 feature a quad exhaust setup, which may appear on the next M135i and the M235i Gran Coupe.
Codename U10 transforms the X2 into the compact Sports Activity Coupe it was meant to be. This change appeals to younger buyers seeking dynamic driving experiences. The X4 is rumoured to be discontinued in favour of a fully electric iX4. Produced in Leipzig, the new X2 is set for a 2024 market launch. In the same summer, BMW will expand the lineup with a front-wheel-drive iX2 and another diesel X2, showcasing its commitment to versatility and innovation.
