In the world of BMW, innovation and homage to classics often intersect. This week, Estella-Fahrzeugtechnik is shining the spotlight on a remarkable reinterpretation of the iconic BMW 507. Known for crafting bespoke vehicles, the company has unveiled the Roadster Tender 5.7, a modern masterpiece inspired by the legendary 507 yet based on the contemporary G29 BMW Z4.
The original BMW 507 gained fame, in part, due to celebrities like Elvis Presley, who owned two examples. Fast forward 65 years, and the Tender 5.7 revives the 507’s spirit with a twist. The all-carbon-fibre body, developed in collaboration with ds-Fasertechnik GmbH, presents a bold departure from the original design. While it forgoes the mustache-like grille and pointy headlights, the body retains a vintage allure, merging classic charm with modern aesthetics.
Inside, the Tender 5.7 offers a luxurious reupholstered interior. Although the dashboard-mounted screens and familiar centre console are unmistakably modern BMW, the layer of supple leather adds a touch of classic elegance. This blend of old and new encapsulates the vehicle’s dual homage to heritage and contemporary design.
Under the hood, the Tender 5.7 boasts BMW’s formidable B58 engine. This turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine, renowned for its performance in the standard Z4, has been significantly upgraded. Enhancements include a larger turbo, an aftermarket intake, and a new exhaust system, boosting the output to an impressive 500 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. These modifications ensure that the Tender 5.7 offers an exhilarating performance that matches its striking looks.
Performance isn’t just about power; the Tender 5.7 also features 20-inch Alpina wheels and fully adjustable coilovers. Estella-Fahrzeugtechnik plans to produce only 15 units, each uniquely coloured. With two slots already reserved, the exclusivity of this model is apparent. Priced starting at €288,000 (approximately $312,543), it caters to enthusiasts who appreciate both performance and heritage.
