BMW Unveils Powerful New Upgrades for 2025 BMW 1 and 5 Series

BMW has refreshed its lineup for 2025, adding new powertrain options and upgrades across the 1 Series and 5 Series Touring. This update brings mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options that enhance performance and efficiency, offering something fresh for BMW enthusiasts seeking power without sacrificing fuel economy.

For the BMW 1 Series, a new 123 xDrive variant bridges the performance gap between the entry-level 120 and the top-spec M135. Equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and mild-hybrid technology, the 123 xDrive delivers a solid 215bhp, achieving 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds. This model combines impressive acceleration with fuel efficiency, offering up to 48mpg on the combined cycle. It uses BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission paired with an all-wheel-drive system, ensuring a responsive yet balanced ride.

BMW is also enhancing the M135 model with an optional M Technology Package. This package includes refined chassis elements, such as a new front strut brace and updated springs and dampers, promising to elevate handling dynamics. Though more details are expected, this package hints at an exciting upgrade for those seeking a sharper drive.

The 5 Series Touring line also sees two new additions: the entry-level 520 and the high-performance M550e plug-in hybrid. Starting at £53,265, the 520 model features a turbocharged four-cylinder engine supported by a mild-hybrid system, achieving up to 206bhp and 340Nm of torque under acceleration. The M550e, priced at £78,855, combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with a robust electric motor, delivering an impressive 489bhp. It sprints from 0 to 62mph in just 4.4 seconds and boasts an electric-only range of up to 55 miles.

In addition to these new options, BMW has upgraded charging capabilities for its plug-in models in the 5 Series and X5 ranges. Now, with an 11kW AC charging capability, the X5 50e charges fully in three hours, while the 5 Series models can be fully recharged in just over two hours, making BMW’s hybrid options more convenient than ever.
