Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia secured his third consecutive BMW M Award in MotoGP™ 2024 after a nail-biting showdown with Spain’s Jorge Martín. The competition, determined by the fastest qualifiers throughout the season, culminated in a high-stakes finale at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which stepped in as the host following a natural disaster in Valencia. Bagnaia’s victory was sealed by a stunning pole position performance in the season’s last qualifying session.
This year’s BMW M Award saw one of the tightest battles in its 20-year history. Heading into the final round, Bagnaia trailed Martín by just two points. With his decisive pole position, Bagnaia earned enough points to claim the title, finishing the season with 369 points—ten ahead of Martín. His six pole positions this season showcased his dominance in qualifying sessions and further solidified his reputation as a top contender in MotoGP™.
The BMW M Award has been a long-standing tradition, rewarding MotoGP™’s best qualifier with a coveted BMW vehicle. Bagnaia’s prize for his stellar performance is the new BMW M5, a model that represents BMW M’s dedication to innovation and sustainability with its electrified drive system. Presented by Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, and Sylvia Neubauer of BMW M GmbH, the award underscores the brand’s enduring partnership with MotoGP™ and its commitment to celebrating rider achievements.
Reflecting on his win, Bagnaia expressed his gratitude and pride in achieving his goal for the season. He praised the intense competition with Martín and acknowledged the importance of the award in recognising the skill and precision required in MotoGP™ qualifying. His accomplishment places him alongside legendary past winners like Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez, further cementing his place in MotoGP™ history.
Bagnaia’s win not only highlights his exceptional talent but also concludes a dramatic and emotional MotoGP™ season. While the competition celebrated its high points, the tragic events in Valencia remained a poignant reminder of the sport’s deeper connections with its global community.
