BMW 220i Black Shadow debut as fancy Gran Coupe

To mark the debut of the 2 Series Gran Coupe, there was a Black Shadow Edition, available in 218i, 220d and M235i xDrive trim last year in Spain. BMW is no stranger to localised special editions, with a recent focus on regions such as Japan. So why not give the world’s second most populated country a unique, limited edition model?

There are only 24 of the new special editions for the Indian market, all through the local BMW Online Shop. A 7-speed automatic delivers 190 hp and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) to the front wheels, while Spaniards can choose between three trim drivetrains. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h) in 7.1 seconds.

It is the aesthetic enhancements, not the engine, that set this particular version apart. This includes a black mesh grille, side mirror covers and an M Performance boot lid spoiler on the 220i Gran Coupe. The 18-inch M Performance wheels are matt black and the two exhaust tailpipes are chrome-plated.

Interestingly, the Black Shadow Edition wheels have a self-levelling cap, just like the Phantom. The Individual and M Performance parts give the car an elegant yet sporty style, whether it is in Alpine White or Black Sapphire.
