BMW 8 X Jeff Koons Edition to arrive in February

Once the new BMW 8 Series is available, the Bavarian carmaker will launch a global marketing campaign to promote it. To this end, they have enlisted the help of Jeff Koons, who has designed a special edition of the 8 Series called ‘BMW 8 X Jeff Koons’. On February 17, BMW will unveil an 850i xDrive Gran Coupe with a unique design that will be on full display. BMW is running a teaser campaign in the meantime.

They released the first pictures of the car yesterday, showing some details. BMW is touting precision, refinement and craftsmanship in this model. The cars will have a multi-layered paint finish in eleven colours, giving them a unique look. Inside you will find fine leather and other luxurious materials, rich red and blue BMW M GmbH colours and an engraved artist’s signature.

This is not the first time Koons and BMW have collaborated. Jeff Koons designed the BMW M3 GT2 Art Car that competed in the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans. BMW says this new project marks the 50th anniversary of its commitment to culture.

The limited edition will still be placed at the Dingolfing plant in Germany. Although BMW has so far withheld further details about the model, we can expect to find out everything on 17 February at Frieze LA in Southern California. An exclusive interview with Jeff Koons was conducted a few months ago at the Villa d’Este.
