Finally, the BMW iX can be ordered online at BMW USA. It is now possible to use the online configurator to put together your car and order it. The main difficulty is that orders take some time to arrive. Officially, the iX will not be launched in the US until next year, provided that the manufacturers cooperate.
BMW is also affected by the current microchip shortage, which is unlikely to end anytime soon. From head-up displays to touch-sensitive screens, BMW has taken a selection off the shelf to keep building cars. Despite the major challenges, BMW has been able to increase its profitability.
With BMW favouring expensive cars on the assembly line to increase profit margins, the BMW iX fits right in. According to the online configurator, the xDrive50 variant is the only one available in the US. This is a 516 hp electric SUV with all-wheel drive and 0-60 acceleration in 4.4 seconds. The bundled battery pack has a usable capacity of 105 kWh and an estimated range of 300 miles.
If you use the configurator, you will notice that the price goes up quickly. The Sport package is worth the money because it adds 21-inch wheels and Shadowline accents. It’s worth $2,800. There are many free colours for the iX, such as Phytonic Blue and Blue Ridge Mountain. Something a little more unusual will set you back $1,950. There’s also a wide choice of wheels, with 22-inch wheels costing $950. Leather costs $2,450, but for a “greener” option, we offer the $500 microfiber/wool blend Stonegrey. Add the premium package for $4,000 and the final price rises to around $95,000, which is not bad considering how many cars you can get for that money.
