BMW iX xDrive50 key specs, release date now available

The BMW Group announces the launch of the BMW iX, soon to be the flagship electric crossover. After the i3, this is the brand’s first EV built on a bespoke electric platform. It has a greater range than other electric cars and is considered to be the most powerful electric crossover to date, aside from being luxurious.

Under the hood are two drive units, consisting of an electric motor, a single-speed transmission and other related electronics. Its front motor is a compact unit that produces 268 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of maximum torque. The rear engine, on the other hand, generates 335 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Boasting a combined output of 516 hp and 564 lb-ft of torque, the iX is expected to deliver impressive performance thanks to its latest Gen5 electric drive unit.

With the battery’s 111.5 kWh gross and 106.3 kWh net energy, its projected range will be around 300 miles. At a fast-charging station, its range increases to 90 miles in just 10 minutes at 195 kW when plugged in at just a 10% charge. Increasing the state of charge of the high-voltage battery from 10 % to 80 % would take less than 40 minutes with the same fast charger.

The iX impresses with acceleration from 0-60 mph time, sprinting in just 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. From a standstill, it makes it to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds. With a curb weight of 5,659 lbs, it can carry a payload of up to 1,054 lbs. Those are some of the key specs of the iX xDrive50 announced by BMW North America. This electric crossover will first be available in Europe and will later come to the U.S. in March 2022. Production will begin next month at BMW Dingolfing Plant.
