Due to the upcoming transition to a plug-in hybrid, the current generation BMW M5 will not remain as it is. Many people fear that the V8 will be lost in this exciting changeover. Watch the video of the M5 First Edition from the Netherlands below to see which features remain.
The unusual special edition model is one of the 400 cars produced to mark the debut of the F90 in the second half of 2017. It was photographed by YouTuber CarSpotterQVS. This M5 is more remarkable than the others, however, because it is painted in Frozen Dark Red metallic. With the original tail lights eventually replaced by the LCI’s revised clusters, it’s clear that the video is a compilation.
The M5 First Edition is characterised by its loud soundtrack, which comes from the 4.4-litre twin-turbo engine. It has 750 hp, which interestingly could be the same power that its successor will have in an electrified configuration. Although the exhaust retains its OEM appearance, it has undoubtedly been reworked, as the AMG E63 Fighter sounds wonderfully raucous.
The camera in the M5 First Edition is based on an older E60-generation unit that is no longer in production. As the exclusive version was featured on the cover of Need for Speed Payback – Deluxe Edition, BMW decided to launch a special limited edition at Gamescom. These went on sale in late 2017, with the first deliveries in early 2018. All had 20-inch double-spoke wheels with black accents inside and out. The interior was Smoky White with contrasting red stitching to match the body. The F90 has since become the CS, but this M5 First Edition is still in high demand.
