The All-new, Limited Edition BMW X7 “Nishijin Edition”

BMW celebrates Japan’s traditional textile production by naming the limited edition X7 after its textile capital in Kyoto. The BMW X7 “Nishijin Edition” is a tribute to Nishijin, the district characterised by centuries of exquisite textile tradition. As such, the X7 “Nishijin Edition” features an unparalleled interior design that highlights the district’s textiles.

BMW has coloured the exterior with the BMW Individual Ametrine paint as it resembles the Nishijin textile patterns. Aside from that, these colours easily adapt to light changes, turning into a more appealing look. Inside this X7 is an outstanding interior classic design, crafted in the traditional Nishijin-ori way. The cabin remains wrapped in the standard Ivory Merino leather, following the usual headliner, centre armrest and trim of the vehicle.

The Nishijin-ori process uses foil to make the design on Japanese paper. Then this is then applied to cover the entire item with trim. To bring forth a stunning depth of colour,  they utilised silver and gold foils and other pigments, resulting in great visual effects. They also used the same foil for the merino leather in the centre armrest, adding depth to the 3-D. Interestingly, they added the woven design of the Keiun image. This design is known as a sign of good wishes. After adding these ornaments, they had them woven in silk warp threads for a seamless armrest cover.

To complete the Nishijin Edition look, the BMW X7 headliner features the same pattern. With this, it gives the impression of one huge canvas covered with artwork. In fact, this whole new transformation gives a Rolls-Royce vibe though it’s a BMW.
