Since the first generation, the new BMW M440i Gran Coupe has been the fastest and most powerful 4 Series Gran Coupe. Despite the “M” in its name, it may really be smoother and more comfortable than ever before, which keeps it from being a proper performance version. In this video review, we take a look at what makes the M440i better than the M340i.
Horatiu takes the BMW M440i Gran Coupe for a test drive in Germany over winding country roads and even the Autobahn. His test car was a fully-equipped M440i in Aventurine Red with black interior. The engine is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque (500 Nm). It is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive. An M440i Gran Coupe with manual or rear-wheel drive is not available in any market. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic engine-transmission combination.
Despite being an M Performance car, the BMW M440i Gran Coupe is smooth and comfortable. Its ride is remarkably smooth, and its interior is quieter than the 3 Series. In addition, the hatchback trunk is far more practical than that of a 3 Series.
The design of the BMW M440i Gran Coupe is also impressive: the new massive kidney grille. Some people like it, others despise it. Horatiu says he did not like it at first, but now it does not bother him. That’s probably true for most customers. However, the 3 Series has a completely different look, so the grille could be an important deciding factor.
