BMW S 1000 RR racers grab multiple wins and podiums

BMW Motorrad Motorsport had a very busy weekend with wins and podiums from five different championship classes. The 24-hour Le Mans race in France marked the beginning of the 2016 FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC). The first FIM Sidecar World Championship (SWC) race of the year was also held there. At Silverstone, the British Superbike Championship 2016 (BSB) has also begun. In America, the BMW S 1000 RR was in action at Sao Paulo’s (BR) Superbike Series Brasil (BRSBK) and in Austin Texas for the Motoamerica FIM/AMA North American Road Racing Series (AMA).

Seven BMW teams participated at the FIM Endurance World Championship at Le Mans all aimed at the wins. Finishing in seventh is number 48 BMW S 1000 RR of Völpker NRT48 by Schubert Motors. Securing third are riders Bastien Mackels (BE), Dominik Vincon (DE) and Stefan Kerschbaumer (AT) in the Superstock class EWC STK. All the other remaining BMW teams also completed the 24-hour race. Positions are as follows: The Tecmas Racing Team – BMW (18th overall), GERT56 HMT by RS Speedbikes (31st overall), 24Racing – Piste Libre – Epsilon (36th overall), LRP Poland (43rd) and the IVR BMW Motorrad CSEU team (45th).

The BMW S 1000 RR grabbed a win and two other podium finishes at the British Superbike Championship at Silverstone, Great Britain. They were also able to get the 1-2-3-4-5 spots in the Superstock class (BSB STK). Tyco BMW rider Michael Laverty (GB) dominated and won the race. His Tyco BMW teammate, Christian Iddon (GB) came in third place.

For the FIM Sidecar World Championship at Le Mans, the BMW duo from Finland Pekka Päivärinta / Kirsi Kainulainen finished second on the podium.

At the Superbike Series Brasil at Sao Paulo, Brazil, the BMW S 1000 RR got a win and a podium. Danilo Lewis (BR) on the Tecfil Racing Team’s RR dominated the race and BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing team, Sebastiano Zerbo (BR) came in third. At fourth place was BMW rider Diego Petrel (BR).

Represented by Steve Rapp (US) at the Motoamerica FIM/AMA North American Road Racing Series at Austin, US, BMW Motorrad finished 11th and 13th overall, and 7th and 8th in the Superstock class (AMA STK).
