Rumor has it that the BMW Z4M is still under consideration. InsideLine reports that the M division at BMW is working on a proposal to develop a Z4M roadster.
“There are days when it hurts not to have one, but there was no compelling business case at the time when the decision was taken,†Albert Biermann, head of product development told Inside Line. “We are trying to make a case but there are so many factors to consider.â€
The launch of the new Z4 Roadster, gave BMW enthusiasts a spark of hope that there will be a Z4 M version next. However, BMW officially denied such plans, given the tough economics and their concentration on more sale-able vehicles. Thus a sportier Z4 sDrive35is followed in 2010 with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged direct-fuel-injected inline-6 and 335 horsepower at 5,900 rpm/332lb-ft of torque.
BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt said that they are committed to make a new entry-level car to allow enthusiasts to progress from track days to racing. “We’d like to do a car that you could buy and run in 6-7 races for around €100,000 ($138,000),†he says. Can this be a hint of the Z4M?
