We’ve already reported about the 2017 BMW i3 getting the range update this summer. The car will feature a new 94Ah battery instead of the 60Ah battery currently in use. With the new battery, the i3 will get a longer range and hopefully attract more customers whose biggest complaint about the current i3 was the low battery and short range.
The upgrade will reflect on the price, too. The 2017 BMW i3 will start at $44,595, $1,200 more than the older versions cost.
The price represents a good deal, considering a range increase you’ll get. The new i3 will be able to go for around 180 km on a single charge compared to the old one that managed only 130 km. So, for the 3% price increase you get 40% range increase. Pretty good, right?
Besides the new battery, the 2017 BMW i3 will feature the Deka World interior design package, 19 in wheels, Comfort Access, a garage opener, and a DC fast charging. There are also some handy optional features you’ll be able to get, such as a monoroof and the Protonic Blue finish.
The other performance numbers will stay the same. The i3 will still have 170 HP / 250 Nm of torque and go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. You can also get a range extender for extra $3,850 and with this option, the i3 will need 7.9 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h.
