Attention BMW iX Owners: Recall Notice for Cruise Control System

The NHTSA warns of the risk of drivers inadvertently engaging the cruise control button while turning at low speeds. BMW of North America is recalling 11,180 iX xDrive50 and iX M60 electric SUVs due to a cruise control safety concern.

This unintended contact could lead to unexpected acceleration or deceleration. However, a visible icon will alert drivers to the active cruise control system. They can easily deactivate it by applying the brakes or pressing the cruise control on/off button. Affected owners will receive a First Class mail notification to schedule a recall appointment with an authorized BMW dealer.

The remedy will be performed free of charge. If this issue occurred in a potentially affected vehicle before the recall, BMW would cover the remedy under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty program. Therefore, reimbursement for a pre-notification remedy is unnecessary, as per Part 573.13 and Part 577.11. Dealer notification is expected to begin and end on June 7, while owner notification is expected to start and conclude on July 28, 2023.

Earlier this year, BMW announced another recall for the iX electric SUV. The recall affected 1,443 BMW iX xDrive50 vehicles from 2022-2023 due to a backing up sound generator issue. The sound generator control unit may fault during vehicle start-up, resulting in the absence of the external pedestrian warning sound. Consequently, the pedestrian noisemaker may not play when needed. This recall affected BMW vehicles manufactured between November 11, 2021, and December 22, 2022.
