BMW Global Sales Continues to Soar

BMW’s global sales continued to soar for April 2016. The month ended very strong with a steady growth in all facets of the BMW Group including BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad. A total of 179,285 BMW Group automobiles were delivered in April to customers all over the world. This translates to a 1.9% increase compared to April 2015. In the first four months of 2016, there were a total of 736,931 vehicles sold. This translated to a 4.9% increase compared to the first four months of 2015. BMW believes that this continuous growth is very sustainable.

BMW Global Sales Soar

Dr Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for sales and marketing said: “Following on from our best-ever sales month in March, we have once again achieved sustainable and profitable levels of growth across the BMW Group product line-up. Despite headwinds in some markets, the overall global picture remains positive for the year.”

Particularly in April, there was a surge in pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles sold. A total of 4,504 was delivered around the world for this month alone and BMW is happy to see this soar. The top contributors for the sales increase in this segment is the USA, Scandinavia and the UK markets. Compared April 2015, BMW i3 increased 50.7% in sales and that’s something worth noting. Overall sales for BMW i have also increased by 29.4%. Just half a year after the market launch of the BMW X5 xDrive 40e plug-in hybrid, almost 10% of all BMW X5s sold last month were electric. 1,196 units were delivered to customers worldwide.

Europe and Asia are frontrunners in the sales lead for BMW. Europe sales totalled to 341,195 units in just the first four months of the year and that’s a 9.9% compared with the same period last year. In Asia, there is a 6.2% increase in year to date deliveries with a total of 234,463 units delivered to customers in the region alone. Particularly high sales come from Mainland China, South Korea, and Japan.
