The BMW i3 was the German automaker’s first stab at creating a completely eco-friendly car to the market. This affected even the way the car was produced – from the sources to the battery recharging. Of course, it needed to be as eco-friendly as possible. So, will there be a second generation BMW i3 model? The BMW i3 Project Manger, Heinrich Schwackhoefer, says yes.
The sales of the i3 was actually really good. There were 60,000 units sold since late 2013 and many customers who did not previously own BMWs actually ported over to the German brand because of this particular car. It was, in many ways, a game changer for BMW.
Despite this amazing sales performance, rumors that the BMW i3 will no longer have a successor still roam around. BMW i3 Project Manger, Heinrich Schwackhoefer, confirms that this is not true.
Talking about a second generation version of the EV, Schwackhoefer says: “I firmly expect that. It’s not the sentiment within the company that it’s been a failure — absolutely not at all.â€
That means we’ll get to see a new and improved i3, albeit in about three or four years.
