If you are looking for an electric car, you have a surprisingly wide range of choices these days. Tesla, with its undeniably excellent Model 3, is the obvious choice. The BMW i4 and Polestar 2 are great options if you do not want the Model 3 for a variety of reasons. Both are excellent vehicles with distinct advantages and disadvantages. But which is the best?
The BMW i4 eDrive40 goes up against the top-of-the-line Polestar 2 Long Range Dual motor in this new video from Electrifying. The i4 is inferior to it in terms of power, agility and grip. But Electrifying, like the BMW i4 and the same eDrive40, beat the Tesla Model 3 in their tests, so will the less potent i4 be able to beat the Swedish powerhouse?
On paper, the BMW i4 eDrive40 does not look promising. It is not only more costly, but it also has only one electric motor on the rear axle, producing 335 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor produces 408 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. This means the Polestar 2 accelerates to 60 mph in one second less than the BMW i4. However, the BMW i4’s range is better.
Both cars are quite attractive, but each has its peculiar oddities. The BMW i4 is generally stunning, especially in San Remo green, although its unusual kidney grilles are a bit distracting. The Polestar 2 is a beautiful piece of Scandinavian design, but its very high, ugly seat height undermines it somewhat. Both cars, however, offer excellent interiors with minimal flaws.
In terms of handling, both ride well but have unique characteristics. Surprisingly, the Polestar 2 is a bit more pleasant and upbeat thanks to its higher performance. The BMW i4 eDrive40, on the other hand, is a bit more polished and relaxed.
After the extensive test, the two hosts have a split choice.
