Check-out BMW i7 and iX1 launching at Copa del Rey

BMW showcased some special vehicles before the start of the 40th edition of the Copa del Rey MAPRE de Vela last week. The BMW iX1 electric crossover and the brand-new BMW i7 electric limousine were on display at the Palma de Mallorca exhibition. The new BMW electric fleet is in keeping with the year’s theme of sustainability. The BMW i7, the world’s first all-electric 7 Series limousine, made its debut earlier this year.

Due to its two electric motors, the BMW i7 xDrive60 doesn’t need any rare earth elements for power. There is a maximum power output of 536 hp and 549 lb-ft of torque. The i7 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and have a top speed of 149 mph. BMW determined this to be the acceptable range according to EPA guidelines. While the xDrive60 is the only member of the i7 family, the M70 will join the ranks in 2023. Up from 544 hp and 549 lb-ft (745 Nm) to 660 hp and a mountain-moving 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque is what you can expect from this upgrade. BMW’s 750-hp XM will remain the company’s most powerful production vehicle, so this won’t be it.

Since power isn’t everything, the new BMW i7 has an impressive array of high-tech amenities. The “Interaction Bar” is a cool feature that wraps around the front of the cabin and uses illuminated buttons and indicators to control various systems. It also can show up in any colour the driver wants. It’s refreshingly original, and it succeeds as a result. Touchscreens built into the door panels allow the rear passengers to operate the climate, and an optional 31-inch theatre screen. The new BMW 7 Series, taking a cue from Rolls-Royce, also has power-operated doors. You can open the outside door by just pressing a button on the door handle. The car’s doors will close themselves after you’re inside if you click a button on the inside handle. The new 7 Series may not have BMW’s best exterior design, but it does have the best cabin, the most opulent interior, and the most advanced technology of any BMW to date.

The BMW iX1 won’t be available to buyers in the US. The BMW iX1 xDrive30e is the sole initial offering in Spain. It has two electric motors—one at each axle—that provide 308 hp and 364 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and 112 mph (180 km/h). The BMW iX1’s 64.7 kWh (usable) battery pack provides 413-438 km of range. Rapid charging at 130 kW lets the BMW iX1 reach 80% capacity in 29 minutes.
