[VIDEO] The New BMW iX xDrive40 Gets an In-depth Review

The BMW iX xDrive40 is developed as BMW’s second all-electric vehicle, smoothly following the outstanding i3. With the i3’s innovative approach, many can say that the original electric hatch will always be a bold model. According to this review by What Car?, BMW developed the iX with the best tech they can offer today and still has similar attributes to the first electric model.

A BMW iX xDrive40 served as their test vehicle. Within the lineup, it is by far the least powerful version. Its two electric motors can produce enough to power 322 HP and up to 465 Nm torque. The EV SUV can still go pretty fast with this setup. It only takes 6.11 seconds for a 0-62 mph sprint. According to the WLTP testing cycle, it has an estimated 257miles range.

Its 71 kWh battery on the floor is the reason behind those. Compared to the xDrive50, it is considerably smaller than the 100kWh of the xDrive50. Above all, the bigger brother xDrive50 has more range at an estimated 380 miles and gets more power and a faster acceleration time. The review compared it to the driving comfort of the Audie e-Tron and Jaguar i-Pace. And it appears that the xDrive will be less comfortable than its two main rivals.

Things change entirely on the iX if you get the adaptive air suspension. The ride in this test car felt a bit bumpy since the xDrive40 does not get it as a standard. On the other hand, its consistency, smooth and precise adjustment of the power makes the card the best in its pedal feel. However, more issues are found from its review. And this is the range in cold weather is another flaw of the car. Check out the video to learn more about the BMW iX xDrive40.
