Can you believe it’s been three years since we first saw the BMW i8 on the market? It’s nearly a time it gets a refresh, which is due in spring 2018. In just over a year from now, the i8 will receive some design refreshments and technology upgrades. It’s even possible it will come out under a different name – the BMW i8 S.
The 2018 i8 will receive an upgraded hybrid powertrain which is currently undergoing some testing. The 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol unit combined with the electric motor will provide 372 HP, 15 more than the current i8 has. Right now, the i8 needs 4.4 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, but we expect the new one to be faster.
A revised battery pack will help extend the car’s range. After the update, the BMW i3 showed a 50% range boost, so there’s no reason for the i8 to skip this important feature.
