Indeed, the i4 M50 doesn’t fit the mould of a genuine M car, as some might assert. Nevertheless, M Performance has been integral to BMW M GmbH’s sales. The 4 Series Gran Coupe took the lead in the performance division’s record-breaking 2023 sales and held the title of the most popular M-branded model in 2022.
In line with tradition, BMW’s M division refrains from disclosing sales breakdowns for its extensive model range. Nevertheless, it’s noteworthy that the i4 M50 outperformed all others, boasting a 14.3% global volume increase, reaching 202,530 units in 2023. BMW M GmbH is continually growing its model portfolio, introducing the X1 M35i, i5 M60, and i7 M70. Additionally, the i5 M60 Touring is set to join the expanding lineup, with the highly anticipated return of the M5 wagon in 2024. Notably, the highly debated XM series, available in three variants (XM 50e, standard XM, and the XM Label, location-dependent), demands attention.
The “most powerful letter in the world” introduces new products and updates existing vehicles. This year, we eagerly anticipate the Life Cycle Impulse for the M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupe, and M4 Convertible, along with releasing a limited-edition M4 CS. Before that, a six-speed M40i will feature a new clutch pedal for the six-cylinder Z4 roadster.
In 2024, we can expect the replacement of the M135i and M235i and a redesigned i4 M50 based on the 4 Series Gran Coupe LCI. All signs point to another outstanding year for BMW M GmbH.
