International Engine of the Year Award Goes to BMW i For the Third Time

The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine from the BMW i8 has won it’s third International Engine of the Year award in a row. It blew away the competition in its category – 1.4 to 1.8-liter.

The overall winner of was the Ferrari 448 GTB’s 660 horsepower 3.9-liter turbocharged V8.

The International Engine of the Year Awards has a nearly 20-year-long tradition. Established in 1999, it announces the best engines in 13 categories and BMW has taken 68 wins so far.

The BMW i8’s engine provides 231 PS driving the rear wheels, plus 131 PS from its battery-powered motor. It has a range of 37 km on a single charge and is able to achieve the top speed of 120 km/h on electric power alone.
