BMW introduces i3 (94 Ah) with longer driving range

BMW is introducing a new version of the i3 with substantially increased battery life translating to a longer driving range.

To give the high-voltage battery pack of the i3 (94 Ah) a capacity of 33 kilowatt hours, BMW engineers added lithium-ion cells with a higher energy density. Thanks to the learning that BMW has earned through research, development, and commitment to sustainable mobility, they have managed to do this without changing the dimensions of the battery.

The official increase is more than 50 percent, according to an NEDC test cycle. It is now more than 300 kilometers (186 miles), compared to the old one which is at 190 kilometers (118 miles). The real-world driving range is increased to a maximum 200 kilometers (124 miles) on a single battery charge. And that’s the same number even in adverse weather conditions!

There is no change made in the performance of the BMW i3 (94 Ah), with its 125 kW/170 hp hybrid synchronous electric motor. 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is achieved in 7.3 seconds and electricity consumption is at 12.6 kWh/100 km. With these numbers, the BMW i3 (94A) is already the sportiest and most efficient electric vehicle in its segment.

The existing BMW i3 with 60 Ah battery and a version with range-extender engine are also offered in the line-up. By maintaining the battery charge during a journey, the two-cylinder engine can increase the car’s range by 150 kilometers (93 miles).

Aside from the longer driving range, BMW also offers additional equipment options and new, more powerful charging stations for home garages for the BMW i3 (94Ah).
