Quiet yet fast-approaching
The quiet yet fast-approaching unveiling of the 2022 BMW i4 is really happening. This middle-class sedan is found to be entirely electrically charged. It is also presently going through some extra test drives, as witnessed on this spy video. On the doors and rear apron, stickers that say “Electric Test Vehicle” are also seen. Thus, making it evident which car is currently in disguise. Also, its silent ride is an ill favor if the former is not that enough.
Meanwhile, an entirely different sound will be experienced by a test driver while inside the vehicle. The i4 will also carry the Iconic Sounds Electric, which was perfected in cooperation with Hans Zimmer. This sound experience will also be felt when you ride the BMW iX3, which presented the same sounds setup. Accordingly, these sounds can compete with the sounds of conventionally powered vehicles. This is because of how it offers that ultra-modern listening experience. However, one should take note that it depends on the situation and the driving mode.
The Value of Sound Experience
For decades, several customers are already sure about a crystal-clear thought. This thought highlights that the sound of a car will play a remarkable role in their driving experience. For this reason, the Munich engineers made sure that this will be sustained in the BMW i4. The fact that electric cars could be almost entirely silent even at its full acceleration is only viewed from a technical viewpoint. In order to suit the persona of electromobility, the engineers have to decipher the sounds in a more advanced way.
On top of this, compared to the approaching BMW M4, the BMW i4 is also heard to be launched as the most powerful model of the 4 Series. What will make it more dynamic are its monster battery pack and dual electric motors. The duo will deliver a spanking 523 hp. For sure, it is way more powerful than the 503 hp of the M4 Competition.
The fifth generation eDrive architecture will also be used by the four-door electric coupe. This makes it the second vehicle from the BMW Group to use it, following the step of the BMW iNext (iX). The charging tech, power electronics, high-voltage batteries and new electric motors are some of the released details about the fifth-generation tech integrated on the BMW i4. As claimed by BMW, the electric motor can dispatch up to 530 HP close to the M50i models’ 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8.
Allowing the company to fit in the packaging and design of the batteries in very tight spaces, the Bavarians have asserted that their products are highly cost-effectively. This became possible because of its high energy density and compact size that can store 80 kWh and with a 550 kilos total weight.
The EPA rating is also expected to be lower when it premieres. Based on the WLTP cycle, the BMW i4 will carry a maximum range of about 373 miles or 600 km.
