The BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 aims to give customers the ultimate riding experience by delivering an analogue experience in a digital age. BMW Motorrad added iconic elements to the VISION NEXT 100 to make it undeniably and genuinely BMW. The design has the black frame triangle, white lines and classic, boxer engine forms. One of the best features is that this is powered by zero-emissions solution.

The black frame triangle was inspired by the first ever BMW motorcycle made in 1923, the R32. The bike looks like a single sculpture with no bearings and joints visible. The surface of the frame features a matte black textile cover. The BMW logo is optimally displayed on the dark frame and illuminated in blue and white when driving.

It actually looks like a naked bike when viewed from the side. Thanks to the clever arrangement of surfaces, the rider is protected from the elements. The Flexframe allows for this single, integrated whole. Because of its flexibility, the bike can be steered just by turning the handlebar which adjusts the entire frame. The strength required to steer the bike depends on the situation. The Flexframe will only need light steering whereas at higher speeds it will need more.

The front has a very minimalist design but enhanced with high-quality details. The frame above the front wheel had a large metal reflector that incorporates the two vertically positioned, U-shaped elements that is the daytime running light. It also doubles as a wind deflector and also contributes in optimising the air flows.

BMW’s VISION 100 bike has active assistance systems that enhance stability and safety by automatically balancing the motorcycle when stationary or moving. A Digital Companion gives the situational information and active support the rider needs.

Information exchanges between rider and bike happen using the visor or data glasses that extends across the wearer’s entire field of vision. It provides protection while showing relevant data in one of four designated display areas. It can be controlled by the rider’s eye movements.

The rider’s gear is also a part of the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 experience. The airy, black and white warms or cools the user depending on weather conditions. When driving in high speeds, the neck part extends to provide extra support for the upper vertebrae and improve overall comfort. There are also sensors in the suit that keep track of the driver’s pulse rate and body temperature. The suit also delivers navigation instructions through the vibrating elements in the arms and legs, and alerts the rider when the banking angle is becoming critical.

“Motorcycling is about escaping from the everyday: the moment you straddle your bike, you are absolutely free. Your bike is The Great Escape,” says Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad, by simply describing the vision behind the motorcycle of the future.
