The F10 generation BMW M5 sports sedan has reached its sunset. The production will end this month. Taking its place is the F90 BMW M5 which will be available in the market in a few months. The F10 BMW M5 was launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, and went on sale on the same year.
The F10 5 Series was the basis for the M5 and a lot of people criticized its heavy frame. However, it also received praise for sheer performance. It is powered by an S63 TU engine that first launched in the X5 M and X6 M. The 4.4 liter TwinTurbo V8 was paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that shot power to an electronically controlled clutch rear-differential.
Officially, the V8 twin-turbo BMW M5 F10 makes exactly 560 hp.For the 2014 model year, the BMW M5 Competition Package was made available. With the Competition Package, the power increases to 575 hp, and there are approximately 300 vehicles from the 30-year-M5 Edition with 600 horsepower. 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque was standard, along with a six-speed manual transmission.
The BMW M5 of the F10 generation is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph (0-100km/h) in 4.2 seconds and its top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). However, an unrestricted (limiter removed) M5 can hit a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h). With Launch Control, several magazines recorded the standard sprint at below 4 seconds.
