If there’s one thing that we’re really excited about the third generation X3 with chassis code G01, that’s its acoustics. This SUV is not the quiet type. In fact, the new 2018 BMW X3 M40i will be delivering an acoustic impression that is unlike no other in its class. Check out its sound from this short spy video from the vicinity of Arjeplog in the cold of Northern Sweden.
Having this kind of SUV will definitely complement the range of the BMW M Performance Automobiles. Some people like their SUVs really loud and this vehicle will cater to that particular audience.
The BMW X3 M40i will have a very recognizable exhaust system. It features trapezoidal tailpipes on the left and right sides. That’s very far from the central tailpipes of the upcoming BMW X3 M so the two cannot be mistaken as one.
Further setting out its looks, the BMW X3 M40i will have an indicated diffuser between the tailpipes which provides an even more sporty and dynamic look.
This SUV is based on BMW’s new CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform. It is longer, wider and offers more interior space, while still being able to be stiffer and lighter. Customers can choose between the new engine options such as the B48 2.0 liter turbo-four to the B58 3.0 liter turbo inline-six. The engine will be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. xDrive all-wheel drive is also almost guaranteed to be standard. Performance is expected to be at 355 hp to 400 hp.
Sources say that the G01 BMW X3 will be unveiled in June 2017 and will have a world premiere Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales begin in March 2018. For now, let’s see how much testing it did in Northern Sweden.
