In this review by AutoExpress, the BMW 3 Series goes against the toughest competitors: the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Jaguar XE. Both rear-wheel drive sport sedans bring enough performance, dynamics and character to this segment. The BMW 3 Series may have dominated the segment in the past but this time, there are serious competitors.
During the test, all three cars had four-cylinder diesel engines, rear-wheel drive, sports packages, and automatic gearboxes so that means it is an equal playing field. More particularly, the participants were the BMW 320d, Jaguar XE 2.0d and the Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2D 180.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia placed third. It was charming and drove really well. However, the ride was a little bit too firm and the technology was not as good as the other competitors.
The BMW 3 Series only takes second place. If only driving dynamics was considered, the 3 Series could have won. However, it had slightly higher emissions and a higher price tag.
The Jaguar XE wins because aside from performing really well and having a nice interior, it also has the most pocket-friendly price tag. Therefore, it is an overall package.
