When news about BMW’s plans to switch the 1 Series over to a front-wheel drive platform exclusively for the Chinese market, the crowd initially did not like it. It was against what people expect from BMW but it is smart to do this car because it will be competing against the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA Class in the Chinese market. Check out this spotting of a bare BMW 1 Series Sedan in China:
It is the first time we actually saw this particular car on the interwebs without any camouflage. The look is common and there is nothing extraordinary about it. The proportions are good though, and it actually looks sporty.
BMW has specific cars made for China because it is one of their biggest markets in the world. The Chinese also have a high demand for BMWs in the recent years that the German automaker of course wants to take advantage of. The decisions may not be as saleable to other markets like America, but they are specifically targeted to the Chinese market.
