The BMW 1 Series Sedan launched successfully in China. It had a great response from the local market, proving that there is plenty of room for this model on the market. Despite that success, or because of it, the 1 Series Sedan won’t be brought to other markets as well.
As Autocar reported, this model will remain a Chinese-only affair as bringing it to other markets wouldn’t be a good move for the company. It is suspected that the potential 3 Series buyers would rather opt for the 1 Series Sedan instead. As the 3 Series is more expensive, it’s clear why this decision was made.
Autocar quoted a BMW source saying:
There are no immediate plans to sell the 1 Series saloon outside of China. The initial signs there are quite positive. We don’t want to get into a situation like that at Audi, where the smaller model has conquest sales from the larger model.
