BMW is only manufacturing and selling the i3 Sedan, an electric sedan based on the CLAR platform, in China, and has no plans to bring it to other markets. The 330e is available to the rest of the world as a plug-in hybrid with or without all-wheel drive. xDrive and the M Sport Package are featured in this new film highlighting the partly electric sports car.
The vehicle, painted in Melbourne Red, has arrived at a BMW store in Canada. The 330e now gets the Life Cycle Impulse’s sharper headlights and bumpers. The charging port lid now has an “i” logo to denote it’s part of the “i” series.
The dual-screen setup inside is a nice touch, and may be the most noticeable change for those who purchase the updated model. However, detractors will point out that it isn’t native to the dashboard anymore, which is a significant drawback. Recent BMWs have streamlined the centre console by doing away with the traditional buttons and knobs to adjust the temperature. Future models will have these built right into the 14.9-inch display.
With a combined output of roughly 300 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, the 330e sits atop the plug-in hybrid food chain, above the 320e. Whether you go with xDrive or not, the electric power will allow you to go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.8 seconds. Regarding top speed, both can reach 87 mph when powered by electricity alone or 143 when using gasoline. The 320e and 330e are stepping stones toward a completely electrified 3 Series coming in the middle of this decade. It will use the Neue Klasse platform, unconnected to China’s i3, and promise 30% better range and charging speed.
