[VIDEO] BMW 340i xDrive Takes on Audi S5 and Genesis G70 3.3T

Many car enthusiasts are familiar with the formidable B58 engine. But how does it stack up against two modified V6 engines? To find out, YouTuber Sam CarLegion decided to pit the pre-LCI M340i xDrive against a 3.3-litre Genesis G70 and a 3.0-litre Audi S5 Sportback. See which engine comes out on top in this exciting race!

The least potent of the three is the M Performance 3 Series. It comes with 392 horsepower and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton meters) of torque. The model with the legendary Four Rings has 397 horsepower and 491 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Asian luxury sedan gets 420 horsepower and 400 lb-ft (544 Nm) (668 Nm). The Genesis is significantly lighter than the German models. However, all three feature automatic transmissions that send turbocharged power to both axles.

The M340i appears to be the least strong of the group on paper, but numbers don’t often tell the whole story. The first drag saw the BMW and Audi almost crossing the finish line simultaneously while the Genesis came in last. Even though the S5 had a little advantage at the finish line, the second drag race felt like deja vu.

In contrast, the G70 was able to keep up with the M340i in the next rolling race from 32 mph (50 km/h) and emerged victorious. Unexpectedly, the S5 Sportback trailed far behind, ostensibly due to its slow-response gearbox. The roll race was repeated, but this time at 50 mph (80 km/h), with the same result.

Not many Genesis vehicles have aftermarket tuning, but it appears that the G70 is fast with the right modifications. Nevertheless, the M340i xDrive was stock, so it wasn’t an apples-to-apples comparison. This inline-six is another example of how BMW intentionally underrates its engines, showing that it likely has more power than claimed.
